How Much Difference Could Hybrid Cars Make To Global Warming?

November 25th, 2009

The fact that the climate of the earth is becoming warmer due to global warming is beyond any question. The past several years have been the warmest recorded in history. Scientists have observed over the years that the major factor causing global warming is the burning of fossil fuels. People prefer using hybrid cars as an attempt to limit greenhouse gas emission. Global warming can be slowed down, and can be controlled reasonably, if we minimise fossil fuel usage.

In order to combat global warming, hybrid cars should be used as they use less gas in its engines than other gas cars. The demand for technologies that are environment friendly is becoming more and more with awareness regarding the threats of global warming becoming more common. Hybrid cars not only use less fuel, they also have an improved mileage than regular cars, due to the small size of its engine.

A hybrid car burns standard fuel in addition to supporting battery-powered engine. It is known to emit from 30 to 50 percent less greenhouse gas emission as compared to a regular car. Due to modern technology, hybrid cars give relatively higher mileage as compared to other vehicles. It runs over 10 to 15 miles more than regular gasoline consuming cars. They are well-known for their economical use of fuel.

Consumers prefer the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) amongst the different hybrid car types. An average hybrid car is designed in a manner that it uses minimal fuel, without compromising on quality of performance. This encourages people to buy it, and works against global warming. The design of some of these cars is such that when the vehicle stops, the electric motor takes over from the gas motor.

As the reserves of fossil fuels decrease, the price increases at the same pace, if not faster. Concern regarding climate change is becoming more and more common. This will more likely lead to consumers showing greater preference for hybrid cars in the future. Another incentive for these consumers is the tax incentive program adopted by many governments to encourage the purchase of hybrid cars.

Not only do hybrid cars use less fuel, they are also relatively easy to clean as compared to other cars. The hybrid cars do not share the ever-increasing emission of toxic gases like carbon dioxide like regular cars. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, contribute to lesser oil spill, and lesser disturbance of life in the tropical forests. This plays a huge role in combating global warming.

Hybrid cars have helped the environment by replacing the regular gasoline-powered cars that give off toxic by-products and greenhouse gases into the environment while they run. Hybrid cars do not only burn gasoline; they also use other forms of motive power to help limit the gasoline that they burn. Thus, they cause less damage to the environment than the other cars.

The time for taking serious action is now or else it would be too late to counter the menace of global warming. This is something that needs to be done by everyone, as each individual has the power to reduce this threat. Although using a hybrid will not altogether eliminate global warming, it is one-step in the right direction for a safer environment for all of us to live in.
