The History of the Jeep

November 7th, 2009

No other off-road vehicle basks in a large following and widely loved as the Jeep. An icon in the world of motoring, the Jeep exudes a certain aura that draws people who love to live carefree lives. But what makes the Jeep an appealing vehicle is its rich history that deeply embedded in the value of patriotism.

Looking for a new vehicle that can navigate certain terrains without compromising its stability, the US Army initiated a bid to build such vehicle. In 1940, three American motoring company were invited to bid for the contract – American Bantam Car Company, Ford Motor Company, and Willys-Overland. But Willys-Overland limited resources soon prompted the US Army to request Ford Motors to build the Jeep using the Willys-Overland design.

The finished unite was designated GPW by Ford with G standing for government, P in reference to the 80 inch wheelbase, and W for the Willys-Overland car design. many of the first Jeeps saw combat in World War II. Some were even leased to the British and Russian as part of the the lend-lease program. Due to its versatility, the Jeep can be used as a communication vehicle or if needed be, a light attack vehicle when fitted with a .50 cal machine gun.

With Allied victory in the World War II, the Jeep became a symbol for freedom and victory. Photographs of infantry and their superiors posing with the Jeep helped raised the vehicle’s popularity to an even higher heights. Pictures of Roosevelt, Churchill, Eisenhower, and MacArthur who posed with the Jeeps also helped in promoting the Jeep’s status as the “in” vehicle.

By the time war ended in 1945, Jeep became a household name. Using the free publicity it received during wartime, Willys-Overland began to build civilian Jeeps. General reaction from the public was very positive, which led to the Jeep becoming one of the best “selling” vehicles of all time.

As years passed by, the Jeep evolved little by little. Tweaks were made, both minor and major. But the one thing that did not undergo surgical change was the Jeeps familiar look.

Today, the Jeep is one of those vehicles that enjoys a very large following of people coming from varying backgrounds. As such, it is highly unlikely that the Jeep’s production specifically that of the Jeep Wrangler, will come to a complete halt. My Grandfather And His Jeep

November 4th, 2009

I spent my elementary years in a rustic place in the highlands of a mountainous province in the Philippines. It wasn’t that far but because of the road conditions back then, the nearest city is about 6 hours away, and it would take 8 hours to reach my hometown.

My grandfather was a former city boy who later in his life opted and has grown to love rural living. About once a month he would take us back to our city hometown to visit our relatives. Back in the city during those days, I would envy those who were in cars with rolled up windows and air conditioning. I would often dream of one day traveling and arriving in my hometown in a brand new automobile enclosed and protected from dust and heat.

It is astonishing to me then when i see people approach my grandpa and rave to him about our awesome ride; how easy and quick is it for us to get to our hometown from where we came from. I would hear them say they would trade anything that they own just to have a jeep like my grandpa’s. Are they for real? They have brand new cars and ours was a pre-owned piece of metal.

That jeep was purchased by my grandfather for a few pesos. It was pre-owned when he got it. He had it first repainted to a deep shade of brown to give the rig a new look. It didn’t have comfortable seats so he found this seats from an old automobile and had it reupholstered.

The trips we took with the jeep were absolutely long ones. Grandpa always had gasoline rations back then from his company. Some were gifts from some uncles i have. He always had that kind of effect on people. People would always love to please my grandfather. The original tank was too small for our trips and all his rations so he found this huge tank from an old truck and had it installed under the front seats of the jeep. It took up all of the front row area.

He also had leather roofings installed on the jeep. He connected a miniature electric fan, and even brought along his tiny portable set to be attached to our ride. I have to admit that despite me wanting a new car so much, looking back, we did have a wonderful jeep.

The jeep served me from the third grade, and I remembered my grandpa took me to the airport when I was leaving to attend college in the capital. It served me then for more than a decade already. When I came home after graduation, sadly he was too old to make the trip. The jeep was still serving him though.

It might have been a used jeep when we got it, but it gave our family service that eclipsed all other vehicles that we ever had. It has exceeded all expectations when it came to performance, and the memories we shared with that old timer is far more cherished than any other car we had.

Truly, used cars if loved and cared for can prove to be of greater value than new ones. Ours was by far the most precious ride of all.

So you’re looking for Jeeps for sale? Why dont you check out some of the great deals available from our store. Perhaps you’re looking for used Jeep Wranglers. Well, it’s your lucky day coz we sell them to. All just great deals for your money, what are you waiting for, treat yourself today.

Making Your Jeep Wrangler Ready for Winter

October 9th, 2009

Winter almost always equates to more difficult and dangerous terrains and trails for any off-road enthusiast. However, more risk involved means more fun and excitement to the hardcore Jeeper. If you own a Jeep Wrangler, you know that winter can really be great time to go off-roading. That is if your Jeep Wrangler can take on the winter and what it brings to the table.

Integrating your Jeep Wrangler with the appropriate accessories can beef up your 4×4 vehicle and take on any trails on winter time. And there are a lot of Jeep accessories out there. This article will help you pick the best parts to transform your Jeep Wrangler into the ultimate winter 4×4 off-road machine.

Getting a top for your Wrangler should be a priority as rain and heavy downpour of snow and ice will be the norm of the weather. A winter top for your Jeep Wrangler will not only provide with some shade, it will protect you from the elements. Once the sun starts to peek through the cloud, you can just remove the top and bask in its warmth again.

Icy roads and snow-covered trails can be tough to drive on. It is best that you fit your Jeep Wrangler with tires that sport winter treads. These winter tires will give you a good bite on the road, thus giving you a great degree of control over your vehicle.

Aside from snow, mud also seems to be a normal sight during winter. And while it can be entertaining to splatter mud all around, you don’t want it getting inside your vehicle and do some dirty work on your carpet. Fit your Jeep’s interior with floor mats and liners to help maintain your Jeep’s interior configuration.

Other essential accessories you might want to bring along when off-roading in winter are jacks, fuel containers, and camping equipment. You don’t want to get stranded without these essentials. Its like getting lost in the woods with nothing but a broken compass that points to the west.

Off-roaders welcome winter as the season brings a lot of risky prospects. Having said that, experienced off-road enthusiasts still respect nature and prepare well for a long drive ahead. Overall, winter is still a great season for off-road adventurers.

Few Good Reasons Why A Jeep Wrangler Is A Bad Choice

September 18th, 2009

A lot of people love the Jeep Wrangler. A lot, but not all, since there are those who are not really interested with the great outdoors. Not only that, they also have plenty of nice reasons why people should not consider in getting the Jeep Wrangler

One good reason is that the Jeep Wrangler is mainly designed for off-road adventures. Although the Jeep Wrangler may look good even in city roads, chances are Jeep drivers will not appreciate the top-down and no-doors feature if they are stuck in traffic. With all the combustion gasses floating in almost every major traffic zones, you would want to get yourself shielded from tons of CO2.

And there are those who would like to have luxe over scruffiness. The Jeep Wrangler is not designed to be a luxurious piece of vehicle. So if you are opting for some state of the art luxurious ride, then you definitely will disagree with the Jeep Wrangler.

To be able to accommodate multitudes of passengers is not a Jeep Wrangler forte, therefore making it one of the reasons not to get one. Bear in mind that this type of Jeep is designed for a lone adventurer or two, perhaps. So please say no to a Jeep Wrangler if you are looking for something that can accommodate numbers of passengers.

Clearly, the Jeep is nit a luggage-friendly vehicle. It also does not have compartments that are secured with locks. If you need a vehicle that you can put things into, then search for a car that has a trunk compartment for your things.

A Jeep Wrangler would not be a good choice if you are not into over-achieving sweat glands and a whirlwind hairdo. Always be aware that this 4×4 vehicle is created to beat out off-road terrains. Regardless, the Jeep Wrangler is still a beauty, on or off road. But if you want to secure your looks and smell for the next destination, then a Toyota Prius is a a good suggestion.

With all those disadvantages, the Jeep Wrangler is will always be a piece of beauty. If you really want to have yourself a Wrangler even if you go against the grain, then do it. No one is forbidding you to.

Rig Your Jeep Wrangler with Speaker Boxes

September 15th, 2009

There is no doubt that the Jeep Wrangler is built for tough roads and rugged trails. However, that does not mean you cant enjoy some quality tunes while trudging through some boulders and muddy pits. Outdoor adventures are always great when some good music is blaring from the background.

If you chose to have your Jeep Wrangler fitted with stereo speakers, the difficult part comes next. Speaker boxes come in many sizes and forms and most of them consume a lot space. And when it comes to space, the Jeep Wrangler has issues with it.

Do not go for sub par speakers. You will be driving in conditions where the outside noise can cancel out even your conversations. If you want to hear what you are playing with the wind rushing against you, you need a speaker system that can do just that. The challenge lies in setting up a speaker system that allows you to hear your tunes despite the outside noises that come with driving an open air vehicle.

The first thing you need to do is get a subwoofer. Subwoofers really amplify the sound your system creates and giving it a thump so you can hear your tunes better. Subwoofers need to be strategically placed inside your Wrangler so you can maximize ts full potential.

Once you got your hands on the perfect subwoofers, next thing is to get them inside an enclosure to prevent resonance within your vehicle. For this particular part, you should hire expert hands to build you speaker enclosures that would suit the interior of your Jeep Wrangler.

Most often than not, car audio professionals would recommend dual speaker enclosures that house both the subwoofer and the amp. Enclosures are very ideal for Jeep Wranglers. Not only do they increase the sound of your stereo, they also optimize the space available inside the vehicle.

Speakers boxes integrated inside your Wrangler will cost you. But if you really love the Great Outdoors and loud music, then the speakers are going to be a worthwhile investment. After all, it is really nice to hear a great song blasting from the background while you conquer rocky slopes and vast sand dunes.

The Benefits Of The 2009 Jeep Patriot

September 2nd, 2009

Careful examination of numerous reviews on the 2009 Jeep Patriot, lead me to the following conclusions. The Patriot will capture the attention of devoted Jeep enthusiasts due to its available off-road capabilities. The more than adequate cargo room is sure to meet the needs of a daily driver/off-road SUV. The acceleration is listed as a con in many of the reviews.

While the bulky boxy styling of the Patriot leaves no doubt that it is all Jeep, it doesn’t handle like a jeep. If you liked the Cherokee you will love the newly improved Jeep patriot. With it’s standard issue 174hp 2. 4L engine and manual five speed transmission, it is obvious that this jeep was designed, in the spirit of all the jeeps before, to see off-road duty as much as on-road errands. With the optional Continuously Variable Transmission, commonly referred to as the CVT, when applied to the front wheel drive sport trim model, can be powered by an 158hp 2. 0L engine.

Preference lets you choose between the front wheel drive system, or the optional four wheel drive system. The optional four wheel drive system includes a feature that is referred to as the “lock” mode. The lock mode is used to improve vehicle traction in poor driving conditions.

One of the optional packages that I find exciting, and I’m sure will excite many off-road enthusiasts all over, is the Freedom Drive Off-Road Group. The off-road mode provided in this package engages a low range in the continuously variable transaxle. Combined with the locking differential and the hill descent control, this is enough to get your motor running. On top of all that this package gains you an extra inch of ground clearance.

Tire pressure monitoring, front and side curtain air bags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability program combine to give the 2009 Jeep Patriot an impressive 9. 1 safety rating. Stability control uses reduced engine power and selectively applied braking to assist the driver in keeping control when it senses the vehicles handling limits have been surpassed.

The Patriots available off-road capabilities are far superior to those of other class comparable SUV’s. Also standard are some unique features in the form of overhead air bags to protect against head injury should the patriot roll over or be involved in a side collision.

The interior was the source of complaints on previous models, therefore it was improved for the 2009 year. Enhancements to the instrument panel, centre console and the addition of some chrome trim are just part of the list. Illuminated cup holders serve as functional, yet offer the feel of elegance. The wireless cell phone link combined with the 30 gig hard drive for storing digital music or pictures, and the upgraded six disc cd player with satellite radio combined with the navigation system are just some of the features you will find useful on your 2009 Jeep Patriot.
